Earth orbit

Although Earth orbit technically covers any object or astronomical body orbiting the Earth, including e.g. the Moon, in everyday usage the term usually refers to the region of space surrounding the Earth up to an altitude of about 40000 km. This is by far the most congested part of the Solar System, being home to hundreds of thousands of objects varying in size from tiny communication satellites up to the three huge space stations that serve as interface points for almost all cargo and passengers going to or from Earth surface.
