The h’ratze is a large animal native to Azin. Measuring up to 7 meters long and up to 3 meters tall, it mostly resembles a cross between a dinosaur and a mammoth, with a short, coarse fur covering a thick, leathery skin, a long tail tipped by a heavy bone club, and four sharp tusks.
Although a solitary herbivore, the h’ratze is both very dangerous and incredibly aggressive and territorial. Once settled in a territory, it will defend it to the point of driving away most other animals. Fortunately, they end to wander, usually seeking out new territory about once a year.
H’ratze-ax hold a special significance in M’rowan mythology and history. As one of the most powerful animals on A’zin, it has traditionally been considered the most prestigious type of prey, and even today, bringing one down is a feat of great distinction for any hunting party. In addition, the h’ratze features prominently in the origin myths of both Clans Ma’shorra and Cruz’zht.
