Lagrange points

Lagrange points or Lagrangian points are positions in an orbital configuarion where objects (such as space stations) remain stationary through the forces of gravity alone, with no need to expend fuel for station-keeping.

As space in Earth orbit started to run out during the second half of the 21st century, the Earth-Moon L4 and L5 points in particular have become popular locations for larger space stations or platforms, such as space-based factories and habitats. Likewise, the Sun-Earth L2 point has been a common position for space-based observatories since the early 21st century, especially because the Earth shields such installations from most interference from the Sun.
